Selected causes of the third Mečiar's goverment on the biased news of the Slovak television

The Master's Thesis "The selected cases of the third Mečiar's government and the bias in news coverage in the Slovak television" analyses a period of the third Mečiar's government on the basis of research focusing on the presence of bias in the news coverage in the Slovak television. This institution, which provides the public service broadcasting, is in general considered as a politicians' tool and during 1994-98 is described as a medium subordinated to the coalition government of that time, or even to a single political party. Due to the previous research dealing with election campaigns in 1998 we decided to focus on two significant events - the kidnapping of Michal Kováč jr. in 1995 and the 1997 referendum, which could present an illustration of the media production during the respected period. Closer characteristics of the socio-political situation with the accent on the selected cases is outlined in the introductory part of the work together with the bias issue and the concept of public service broadcasting. In this work we pay attention to the characteristics of evolution of the Slovak television after 1989 as well, and to a closer description of its functioning and broadcasting in 1994-1998. Public Broadcasting Television in the Czech Republic

1 The thesis Public Broadcasting in the Czech Republic focuses on Czech Television and its broadcasting which should fulfill special tasks of public service. It is divided into two main parts - theoretical and analytical. The theoretical one starts with a description of evolution of Czechoslovak television and continues with establishment of dual system of broadcasting and formation of Czech television. Then the thesis deals with public service broadcasting, its significance, potential criticism and above all its definition in the laws. The definition of public service tasks is used for the analysis in the analytical part of the thesis. In its beginning author laid down some hypotheses. For the purpose of verification of their compliance the thesis continues with the analysis of broadcasting schedule which shows differences as well as similarities between the public and the commercial broadcasting media. Last part of the bachelor thesis is dedicated to the analysis of selected programs in terms of the public service tasks defined by appropriate laws and documents. On these selected programs author tries to show the specifics and meaning of the public service broadcasting for the society.
TV-Charity in the Czech republic

This thesis is a case study, which is focused on relationships and forms of cooperation between non-profit organizations doing charity, and Czech Television. The main methods of data gathering in this work are semi-structured interviews with selected stakeholders. One respondent from the Czech TV and five representatives of different NGOs participated in the research. According to the theory of agenda-setting and the concept of gate keeping the aim of this study is to find out how NGOs get on the TV screen. Part of this thesis is devoted to the specification of various form of cooperation between Czech television and different non-profit organizations. Also there is an an assessment of the current situation from the perspective of both sides. In the final summary there are the crucial findings and discussion devoted to problematic issues in the cooperation of Czech Television and nonprofit organizations.
Launch of the public-service culture channel: Broadcast Analysis of ČT art untill the year 2014

Diploma thesis "Launch of the public-service culture channel: Broadcast analysis of ČT art until the year 2014" describes the origin and development of the channel ČT art, including an analysis of how it influenced the transformation of ČT2. This thesis, therefore, includes the programme composition of both channels monitoring the period from autumn 2013 to autumn 2014, as well as the programme composition of ČT2 from autumn 2012. This allows us to evaluate how ČT2 attended to cultural broadcasting before the launch of the new and thematically specialized channel ČT art. Moreover, the thesis tries to point out the trends taking place in television broadcasting such as digitalization, fragmentation of TV audiences and media convergence. These trends are illustrated by using specific examples from the Czech Television, as well as the theoretical foundation. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on describing public-service media, services they provide and their roles in fulfilling the cultural needs of society. In addition, it also draws attention to examples of culturally oriented channels within Europe. The future form and the functioning of public service media is currently a widely discussed issue in European countries, not only among professionals but also among politicians and the general public. The aim of this thesis is to map the form of this discussion in Germany, whose public media has so far a strong and irreplaceable position in media system. The first part of the thesis will be focused on the history of the public service media and the description of their current state (structure, functioning, legal regulation, etc.). The second part will deal with the debate on the existence and form of public service media, which is currently taking place in Germany. In particular, the question of the form of the existence of these media in the digital environment, their financing, the range of services they provide and others are discussed.
Comparation of media portrayal of Islam after the attack on the magazine Charlie Hebdo in the Czech public service and private broadcastings

The bachelor thesis Comparison of the media portrayal of Islam after the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Czech public service and private broadcasters focuses on reportages televised by two Czech broadcastings, public service ( T 1) and private broadcastings (TV Nova). The purpose of this thesis is to apply the qualitative content analysis on these reportages in order to find out what is their message, and consequently the depiction of the media portrayal of Islam after the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The first part of the thesis states information about Islam, Charlie Hebdo magazine and facts related to this issue, followed by theoretical definition of media, their content and research. Furthermore, each broadcasting and also the topics of selected reportages are characterized. In the next part of the thesis the results of qualitative analysis are presented in detail and compared with mentioned broadcastings. Public Service Broadcasting in the Czech Republic: compliance with PSB criteria in the case of the Czech Television

The thesis Public Service Broadcasting in the Czech Republic: compliance with PSB criteria in the case of the Czech Television is covering the topic of public service media and their system of public service evaluation. In its theoretical part this thesis is describing several approaches to a definition of public service media themselves. It is also mentioning history of the concept itself and its development not only in the Czech Republic but in Great Britain as well as other European countries. The practical functioning of the public service evaluation system is also covered on an example of the BBC and the Czech Television. In the analytical part the author is trying to describe and sum up the evaluation system as it is used by the Council of Czech Television. Detailed analysis of the data and its sources is provided as well as identification of elements that are taken into the consideration when evaluating. The analysis then leads to a discovery of certain discrepancies in the evaluation process and its outcomes. The author is trying to identify the most problematic points of the system.
